South Park Track Easter 2010
Construction of the raised track in South park started at the end of July 2009.
The bad weather of winter finally receded and work on the track accelerated. By Easter most of the pillars and steel sections were in place.
These pictures, taken on 5/4/2010, take a trip round the track starting at the Station.
Just after leaving the station we reach the location for the traverser which will access the steaming bay area. The concrete found in the area has proved to be a major problem. It is not good enough to be used as a base for the traverser and to high to cover over.
This a picture showing one of the options for the transporter in the steaming bay. The idea is run from the traverser onto a transporter which can be moved to the left to line up with one of several steaming bay tracks.
Back to the main line and this is the end of the of the North bend.
Heading south towards the pinch point. On the right is one of the mounds of material removed during the excavations and which will need to be landscaped.
Another view of the north mound. A lot of this material will be moved to be used elsewhere so eventually it should almost disappear
